UK11 (X4YR) Rufforth Airfield.

Another former WW2 Airfield, today it serves as two airfields in one. The Yorkshire Gliding Club function in the Western area of the airfield whilst the Rufforth Microlight Centre operates in the Eastern area. As the airfield had a single runway designated UK11 in the default simulator this version uses the default designation for Gliding and X4YR for the Microlight Centre. The UK ‘safetycom’ frequency is shared between them.

X5KB Kirkbride

A ‘complete’ model of this former WW2 airfield. All models have been custom made by Ted Andrews with additional work by Gerry Winskill. Includes AI files for aircraft and road traffic.CIX Members are welcome to add the additional features to their own version of this model, however, please note that this afcad file uses the code X5KB and not KB10

X5LS RAF Lissett

Opened in 1943 this Halifax Bomber Base on the Yorkshire coast of England suffered many operational losses. I was asked to make this model by the son of one of the pilots who flew from RAF Lissett. The base closed in 1962 and is now home to the Airworth Avro Vulcan XH558.RAF Husbands Bosworth was operational between 1943 & 1946. The site has now been returned to agricultural use with the exception of the Gliding School and East Midlands Police Air Support Unit, (also modeled).

EGWC Cosford + Bonus Long Mynd Gliding Centre

Opened in 1938, RAF Cosford was the central apprentice technical training centre for the RAF.Cosford is now home to the Royal Air Force Museum. EGBE Coventry

Home to Air Atlantique Vintage Airlines and now the hub for Thompsonfly (TUI AG). The airport was opened in 1933 and served during WW2 as RAF Baginton. Being only 13 miles from Birmingham International it’s continued expansion has met strong opposition.

EGNS Isle of Man

The Ronaldsway area of the IOM has been used for landing and aircraft takeoff since the early 1930’s. It became a ‘hard’ runway in the late 1930’s when seconded to the Royal Airforce as a Gunnery Training School. The airport is presently being expanded with work due to start on a new Control Tower in October 2008.

EGNT Newcastle

Opened in 1935 the Airport originally had a grass runway, a hangar, a garage and a workshop. It cost £35,000.00p to build. With the advent of package holidays the airport began to expand and this has continued to the present day. The screen shot is of the new ‘Super’ Control Tower. Custom made model by Ted Andrews.

UK03 (X2EN) Enstone Airfield

Actually two airfields in one in it’s present form. 08L/26R is operated by ‘The Maintence Facility’ and is a 1020m grass strip enclosed in a fenced area. Straight approaches a must. The remaining Asphalt and grass strips are operated by Oxfordshire Sport Flying Club. A full agn scenery package is included should you wish to use it.

EG56 Hinton-In-The-Hedges

2nm West of Brackley. This airfield was missed by Microsoft so is a new addition to FSX. It has three runways but only one fit for take-offs. Landing on the other two is recommended emergency use only. The airfield has a thriving pilot training and parachute centre. An ‘agn’ pack is included for use if you wish to enhance the area.

EGTD Dunsfold

Operated now by Dunsfold Park Ltd this was formerly a development centre for BAe. Inaugural test flights of the Harrier Jet were flown here. The site is now probably know World wide as the home to a TV Motoring program. The test track layout has been faithfully recreated by Scott White. Scott has also custom made the BAe hangar featured in this layout. My thanks to Scott for his assistance.
